Introduction

Global aerosol data are retrieved from GOME and SCIAMACHY measurements. The retrieval is carried out by top of Atmosphere (TOA) reflectances in nadir-viewing conditions, using channels selected in the most transparent atmospheric windows. The algorithms are able to retrieve aerosols over dark-surface as sea-surface.
Level 1B Gome data have been re-calibrated using GomeCal package.
The FRESCO cloud algorithm (FRESCO GO-v3 data version) has been used to take into account the ground-pixel cloud coverage fraction.
Aerosol classes have been selected among tropospheric aerosol types. Only volcanic aerosols have been introduced as stratospheric aerosol. Strong events due to biomass burning and desert aerosol have been also retrieved.

Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) at 500 nm and Aerosol type data, related to each ground-pixel, constitute the GOME Aerosol Level-2 Product, which is in ASCII format.

Level-3 products (examples shown below) consist of global maps collections (resolution 20'x20') of monthly mean values of AOD and monthly occurrence of aerosol classes.
Level 3 data have been filtered considering residual sun glint effects and corrected for weekly cloud-contaminated pixels.
